Join Rae’s Extreme Quadclass for Comic Relief

The Venue Leisure Centre are delighted to be supporting Furzefield Leisure Centre and one of their members, Rae, on a mammoth fundraising challenge to raise money for Comic Relief by hosting a Red Nose Day Extreme Quadclass on Saturday 19th March.

Rae’s Story

Following a cycling accident in 2017, Rae became paralysed from the neck down. The accident left him with server facial injuries, a cracked skull and a broken neck. He was told he would never walk again by experts at the Royal London Hospital Major Trauma Unit.

However, after intense rehabilitation and with the great help of the NHS team he trained himself to walk again. He still experiences body pains, spasms, pins and needles, burning nerves and is weaker on his right hand side. As part of his journey back to fitness, he took on a series of fundraising challenges to support the charities that have helped him during his recovery. He also chose to fundraise for Comic Relief as he has personal experience of the key areas of the Comic Relief fund.

In 2021, set himself the 4x4x48 challenge (48 miles in 48 hours – 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours) based on the 4 key challenges that Comic Relief supports (homelessness, domestic abuse, child poverty and mental health problems).

Rae is also encouraging others to get involved, in the lead up to the main event. The Venue Leisure Centre will hosting a Extreme Quadclass on Saturday 19th March, four exercises classes back-to-back where we want to encourage others to get involved and take part in as many classes as they can, with all money raised going to Comic Relief.
